Santa Clarita native Luis Ruiz Jr. did something he has not done since 2004.
The boxer won by a knockout.
Ruiz Jr. hit Wayne McCullough, who has not been stopped in his career, in the sixth round of a featherweight bout in George Town, Cayman Islands.
Ruiz Jr. won the NABF title, and he now has a chance at earning another WBO world title sometime either this year or early next year against a fighter to be determined.
Ruiz (22-5) picked up his seventh career knockout.
"It's amazing to wait until he gets a fight like this to score a knockout," David Ruiz, his brother, said.
Back home in Santa Clarita, Ruiz Jr.'s father, brother and sister-in-law were watching the fight on Showtime.
