A Valencia teen with rock star aspirations of her own will appear in a music-filled movie about a group of kids attending a prestigious rock music camp, airing today on ABC.

Alyson Stoner, 14, stars as Caitlyn Geller, an aspiring music producer, in the original Disney television movie "Camp Rock."

"Caitlyn is kind of the moral compass. She has a lot of integrity and she's a leader," Alyson said. "I think she has qualities that everyone can relate to and can aspire to be."

In the movie, Caitlyn, a camp veteran, befriends new camper Mitchie (Demi Lovato), and helps her navigate the camp's social circles. Mitchie soon meets Shane (Joe Jonas) and sparks fly.

The movie is family-oriented and is full of music and dancing, Alyson said.

"There are serious as well as comedic parts, and I think kids will really enjoy it," she said.

Alyson and her family relocated to the Los Angeles area to follow her dream of stardom after she studied ballet, tap and jazz dance for several years in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio. Since then she has appeared in music videos, on several Disney Channel shows and in the feature films "Cheaper by the Dozen" and its sequel.

To accommodate her busy schedule, Alyson is enrolled in a homeschool program, but she attended Rancho Pico Junior High in Stevenson Ranch for more than a year.

"Nowadays, it's hard for me to get together with friends from my old school, but I try to get together with kids from my neighborhood whenever I can," Alyson said.

When Alyson isn't acting or dancing, she's training with a voice coach or writing music and lyrics in hopes of having her own recording career someday.

"Music is very important to me, so however I get there - I don't know - but I will get my voice out there," she said.

"Camp Rock" will air today on ABC and Sunday on ABC Family. Check local listings for times.

The movie premiered Friday evening on the Disney Channel.
