Selling out a dream

Our president recently announced the termination of the Manned Space Flight program (Constellation) while supporting the continued funding of AIG with billions of taxpayer dollars that are unlikely to ever be paid back.

There is a need to give America a vision for the future right now, a reason to lift our eyes off the ground in front of our feet and look toward the heavens for inspiration.

Former President John F. Kennedy understood the need to unify the nation by sharing a vision. He ignited our imagination and our national pride by setting and achieving the lofty goal of placing man on the moon.

Not only was national pride boosted by our achievement, the outflow of technology produced from the Apollo and subsequent programs included such innovations as GPS onboard navigation, composite materials development for lighter and stronger autos, enhanced computer processing and enhanced communication through satellites.

All of these benefits were subsidized by a step of faith and vision.

Our leaders today need to start thinking as leaders and realize that it takes more than tax bailouts to get a country back on its feet.

People need a reason to hope and dream; a reason to be proud.

Our Manned Flight Space Program has long been neglected but is now in jeopardy of being eliminated. We need to wake up and look up — we are in danger of losing our way and our confidence by replacing dreams with balance sheets.

Think about it and don’t forget your dreams.
