Christian poets contest
Who: Christian Poets Guild
What: A $1,000 grand prize is being offered to the last poet standing in this contest. Poems of 21 lines or fewer on any subject and in any style will be judged by contest director Dr. Jack Carroll. The contest is free to enter and open to poets of any age. Fifty prizes totaling $5,000 will be awarded.
When: Entries must be received by Feb. 28
Where: Submit entries by mail to 7308 Heritage Dr., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620 or at www.freecontest.com. Those sending entries should include their name and address on the same page as the poem.

Higher Vision’s new location

Who: Higher Vision Church
What: The church has a new location and is now offering three services. The church also has youth, high school and college groups.

Mini-course on Jewish thought
Who: Congregation Beth Shalom
What: The Adult Education Program presents “For Those Who Can’t Believe: Choices In Modern Jewish Thought.” This four-part mini-course will challenge your notion of God through the teachings of some of the greatest Jewish theologians of the 20th century. Instructor: Rabbi Howard Siegel. Tuition: Free to congregation members, $25 for nonmembers.

Friendly Valley Service

Pysanky demonstration
Who: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
What: Fourth-annual Pysanky-making class. Pysanky are Ukrainian Easter eggs using the wax and dye method. Mothers passed on the ancient tradition to daughters a few weeks prior to Easter. Class is open to all. Bring a dozen or half-dozen raw, room-temperature eggs. Utensils and tools for applying wax will be provided. Charge of $2 per person.
When: 12:30 to 3 p.m. March 21
