Two SCV schools place in county competition

Two local high schools placed among the top 20 Los Angeles County schools during the recent 28th annual Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon.

West Ranch High School placed ninth with 39,358 points and Saugus High School placed 14th with 35,284 points out of a possible 60,000 points.

West Ranch was also named one of three schools with the most improved scores. West Ranch saw its score increase by 1,908 points from last year.

Teams are comprised of students from all grade-point averages. Students are challenged to use analytical skills, performance abilities and test-taking and writing aptitude in 10 subjects.

This year's competition, held Saturday, focused on the French Revolution.
