Authorities this morning ordered the evacuation of 39 homes in Acton as a winter storm prepared to dump rain on the Santa Clarita Valley today.

Acton residents of Aliso Canyon Road near the Niles Canyon Ranch and Wagonwheel Ranch areas are required to evacuate.

Residents of Bootlegger Canyon Road, Heffner Road, Maryhill Road and parts of Soledad Canyon Road are also to leave their homes.

The Acton evacuations are part of orders for 541 homes on the hillsides of La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and two canyons north of Los Angeles.

Sheriff's deputies asked residents to move their vehicles and trash cans away from the streets, where water and rocks roared through, smashing cars and concrete barriers together on Saturday morning. More than 40 homes were damaged by the weekend mudslides.

Weather forecasters issued a flash flood watch for this afternoon through late tonight for neighborhoods below steep slopes that were scorched by the fires last summer.

The National Weather Service forecasts showers and a possible thunderstorm for the Santa Clarita Valley today. The rain is expected to last through Wednesday morning.
