With summer right around the corner and the temperature heating up, car washes throughout the Santa Clarita Valley will be busy as motorists seek to shine their steel.

Anyone visiting the Valencia AutoSpa tonight will do more than just bake in the sun while their vehicle is dried, as the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and the Department of Children and Family Services will hold a fundraiser between 6 and 8 p.m. to benefit the department's "999 for Kids" program.

During the fundraiser, patrons may purchase the AutoSpa's VIP Platinum Works car wash, which includes a tire shine, two types of wax, two types of coat, an interior vacuum and window cleaning, for $10. Normally, the same package costs $20.

Sheriff's Capt. Anthony La Berge will help wash a few cars at the fundraiser.

The "999 for Kids" program was developed to help physically and mentally challenged children throughout Los Angeles County who are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence.

According to Deputy Mike Lorenzi, who is coordinating the event, "999" is the law enforcement code for "officer needs emergency help."

"In this instance we do need help," said Lorenzi. "Across Los Angeles all Sheriff Department stations help raise much needed funds for this cause during the months of June and July."

The "999 for Kids" program raises money for the purpose of purchasing special items and services, such as sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes and medically-oriented toys and games.

Those interested in helping raise money for the "999 For Kids" event may purchase a car wash today starting at 6 p.m. Approximately 200 car wash tickets were already sold Wednesday afternoon.

For more information call Mike Lorenzi at (661) 799-5884 or the Valencia AutoSpa at (661) 254-2000.
