A Ventura man traveling along Interstate 5 died Friday night, after his vehicle collided with a Mercedes-Benz just south of Gavin Canyon near Calgrove Boulevard, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Julius Glover, 22, was driving a Honda Civic at the legal speed limit in rainy conditions about 9:40 p.m. Friday when his car was struck, according to a CHP report.

The report also stated Glover was traveling behind and to the right of the Mercedes when its driver, who was also driving at 65 mph, lost control and entered into Glover’s lane.

The front of the Mercedes struck the Civic’s front side, sending it into the center divider, the report said.

The Civic slid along the wall, traveled over the wall and landed on the right shoulder of The Old Road. Glover suffered fatal injuries and his passenger, Louisa Hezseltine, 24, received major injuries, the report stated.

The 27-year-old Valencia driver of the Mercedes was not believed to have any major injuries. His vehicle sustained little damage and was driven off the freeway to a safe location.

A CHP official could not say whether rain contributed to the collision.

Officials made no arrests. The crash remains under investigation, but CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved.
