A refreshing stance

In these times of political correctness, it is refreshing to see one of our local politicians has the guts to take a bold stance and stand up for something that others may consider too risky on which to take a public position.

I am referring to Bob Kellar and his presence and statements at the Minuteman rally. This issue is obviously too hot to touch, as City Councilman Frank Ferry does not even have the backbone to call it illegal immigration. He chose to call illegal immigrants undocumented workers.

Give me a break.

Kellar has also taken other positions unpopular with others on our City Council. When the mega-expansion of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital was proposed (with its commercial office buildings and mega parking structures), Kellar's was the sole "no" vote.

Others voted yes, including City Councilwoman Laurie Ender, who accepted a $30,000 campaign contribution from the hospital developer.

Kellar was the sole holdout and knew that the development was not right for this area. The message at the Minuteman rally was simple: Secure our borders.

It is a shame that others on the City Council sought to distance itself from this radical idea and Kellar.
