Deputies are helping residents anonymously dispose of unwanted drugs, officials said.

Three storage containers in front of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are part of the Safe Drug Drop-Off program, according to a statement released by the station.

Residents can use the containers to anonymously get rid of expired or unused prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, syringes, and other controlled substances, the statement said.

Drugs that are not properly disposed of could be illegally used, sold or distributed. They could also be ingested by children or end up in water sources, according to the statement.
