Sports Illustrated was just the beginning.

Canyon Country resident and youth soccer player Courtney Proctor was recently named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Girls Youth All-America Team.

That honor piggy-backed a cover for ESPN Rise Magazine for its Los Angeles-area markets in December.

“It’s really flattering,” Proctor said of both honors. “They pick me to be on the cover. It’s really humbling, but I’m not all about the attention. I’m just there to play. But it’s really refreshing to be noticed.”

Proctor, who is home-schooled, has had quite a year.

Last January, she scored a goal in international competition for the U.S. Under-17 national team against Germany.
In the spring, she verbally committed to UCLA.

In July, she was just one of 14 teenagers featured in Sports Illustrated for its “Where will they be?” section, which focused on future star athletes.

The 16-year-old recently played for the Under-18 team and played against the U.S. Under-23 team in an exhibition at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

Proctor is hoping to be added to the Under-17 team that will compete for the 2010 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

The forward had been playing for the Santa Clarita United club team, but is now playing for Newport Beach-based Slammers FC — a squad that boasts Mia Hamm as a trainer.
