The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons' 2010 season follows up concerts by Kris Kristofferson, Kevin Spirtas and members of the L.A. Chamber Orchestra with a pair of shows especially for kids and their families.

On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Tony-nominated "A Year with Frog and Toad" takes the PAC's main stage.

Based on the beloved characters created by Arnold Lobel and developed by his daughter, Adrianne, the play follows the adventures of inseparable friends Frog and Toad. Along the way, the duo shares fun-filled stories and songs that emphasize friendship.

The curtain rises at 2 p.m., but guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy arts and crafts at this edition of the PAC's "Almost Free Family Series" sponsored by McDonald's of Santa Clarita.

In an evening concert the following Saturday, Feb. 6, "Spirit of Uganda" presents a vibrant cast of 22 performers ages 6 to 18.

Their dynamic choreography, bright, layered standing-drum rhythms, and gorgeous call-and-response vocals bring to life the sounds and movements of East Africa.

Ambassadors for Uganda's 2.4 million orphans, these children personify the resilience and promise of Africa's next generation as they promote awareness of Uganda's dual crises of AIDS and civil war, and raise funds to support themselves and others in their homeland.

The troupe, hailed as "marvelously spirited musicians and dancers" by the Village Voice, takes the stage at 8 p.m.

The Performing Arts Center is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia 91355. [map]
