Happy Father’s Day to SCV’s fab dads

Have you hugged your father today? Did you call? Send a card? Write a note? Today's the day to honor the many dandy dads in the SCV. My dad taught me to drive, taught me which wild plants that were safe to eat, taught me to think for myself, taught me how to ride a horse and taught me about honor. I miss him.

Zonta Installs Christine Miller
It was an evening of "Rusty Nails," walking the plank and hearty "arrggghs" as the SCV Zonta Club installed Christine Miller as head Zontian during the fun evening event at Le Chene.

Also installed were president-elect Cindy Kittle, vice president Carla Edwards, treasurer Donna Schmidt, secretary Phyllis Walker, nomination committee Vicki Oren, JoAnn Rodriguez, Barbara Sterns-Cochran and directors Nancy Albrecht, Jorja Harris, Betty Seldner and Alicia Estrada.

Among the highlights of the evening was the announcement of the Zontian of the Year: Barbara Sterns-Cochran. Dianne Curtis, current Zonta International vice president, served as installing officer.

Zonta Foundation officers and trustees are: President, Karen Maleck-Whiteley, secretary, Karla Edwards, treasurer, Victoria Oren. Trustees include Darleen Lyons, Sharon Langenbeck, JoAnn Rodriguez, Dianne Goddard, Christine Miller and Cindy Kittle.

Wine Classic at CalArts
Kudos to everyone who made the annual Wine Classic to benefit the Santa Clarita Youth Orchestra a success.

Wonderful food, fabulous wine and a great evening it was! Seen at the Wine Classic were: John Dow, Marlee Lauffer, Barbara Myler, Marjanne Priest, TimBen and Ingrid Boydston, Bruce Fortine and Gloria Mercado and Skip Newhall. I loved the apple dessert prepared by the College of the Canyons Culinary students - it was superb (and I want the recipe)!

Evening Under the Oaks
Time to dig up your Western duds and mosey on down to the BK Corral for a spur-jangling good-time with the Santa Clarita Symphony. Join Symphony supporters on June 21 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. as the front yard of Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar's home is transformed into a mini western town featuring a general store, bandstand, a jail and saloon reminiscent of the 1970's television show "Gunsmoke."

Cost is $100 "a head." For reservations RSVP to the Santa Clarita Symphony at (661) 284-6044. For information about the Santa Clarita Symphony visit www.scsymphony.com.

Kudos to Dianne Curtis
Several members of the SCV Zonta Club will be traveling to the Netherlands, to Rotterdam, June 27-July to support the SCV's own Dianne Curtis in her bid to become Zonta International president-elect. The lofty office will require two years of training and traveling for Dianne before she assumes the International presidency for two years.

Zonta is an international organization of business and professional women working to improve the legal, political, economic and health of women across the globe.

There are 33,000 members of Zonta in nearly 1,200 clubs in 68 countries.
