Local up for McDonald’s game

Golden Valley point guard named to list of potential All-American players

Golden Valley senior point guard Trevor Wiseman (23) was nominated to play in the 2010 McDonald's High School All-American Game.

Tongue planted firmly in cheek, Golden Valley senior basketball player Trevor Wiseman began the campaign Monday.

"I actually think McDonald's has the best breakfast ever," he said. "It's the two Egg McMuffins combo meal. I think it's the No. 8. I love that place."

Not that his affinity for the fast food restaurant will help, but Wiseman was recently nominated to play in prep high school's most prestigious game - the annual McDonald's High School All-American Basketball Game.

Wiseman, a 6-foot-8-inch point guard, is the first boys basketball player to be nominated for the game in recent memory.

"It's an incredible honor," Printz said. "The chances of playing in the game are very slim for every player in the country. It's an honor just to be nominated."

In 2008, Hart's Michael Montgomery was nominated to play in the game.

Hart graduates Ashlee Trebilcock, Taylor Lilley and Tatianna Thomas and Valencia graduate Kelley Tarver and Canyon graduate Nicole Leon were all nominated on the girls' side, but were not selected to play in the game.

Wiseman is averaging 19.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

In a 64-45 win over Chatsworth on Saturday night, Wiseman had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

The 18-year-old is a definite candidate for the Foothill League Most Valuable Player award.

Despite three solid varsity seasons for the Grizzlies, the senior knows that it would be an uphill climb to make the final cut for the All-American team.

"I'm just excited to be nominated," he said. "I've really been working hard throughout high school. I guess I'm doing something right."

Wiseman is one of only 85 players from California to be nominated for the team.

The McDonald's All-American games will be played on March 31 in Columbus, Ohio.

Twenty players from a list that usually starts between 1,500 and 1,800 boys will be selected around Feb. 15 for the game.
