Members of the Student Task Forces at Canyon Country High School and Valencia High School will host a Haiti relief project, "Dollars for Haiti," from Jan. 26-29.

This is a competition to raise money for Haiti in the wake of the earthquake. The students will collect donations at Canyon High, 19300 W. Nadal Street, Canyon Country 91351.

Teachers, staff and students are all invited to donate.

All donations will go directly to Doctors without Borders' Haitian fund.

"We chose Doctors without Borders because they will be helping in Haiti for a long period of time," said Megan Scherich, a Canyon senior and one of the organizers.

The Student Task Forces will also host an essay/art contest to raise awareness about human rights violations. The contest is open to junior high and high school students. Contest guidelines and information packets are available online at hrwstf.org or at either school's main office. The deadline for entries is 9 a.m. Feb. 22.

The winning essay will be published in the L.A. Tmes and the winning art piece will be the cover for the book we will publish with the top works from each category. Students will also be honored at an awards ceremony.
