Make SCV Green your Valentine Feb. 13

Event with art, wine and chocolate

SCV Green invites all who love the Santa Clarita Valley's open spaces and wildlands to an evening wine-and-chocolate reception and silent art auction on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at a Victorian home in Newhall's Happy Valley neighborhood, 24820 Fourl Road, Newhall 91321.

The silent auction will feature local plein-air artists' works illustrating our region's natural beauty. Plein-air, or "open-air" artists paint outside in a natural environment, rather than in the confines of a studio.

Santa Clarita's All Corked Up is advising on wine pairings, and tea and coffee will also be available.

SCV Green hopes to promote local artists, raise funds for this year's operating expenses, and enlist support for a locally-driven private land trust that will help keep wild places wild, wildlife corridors connected and scenic vistas undisturbed.

During the evening, SCV Green board members will give a short talk about the wildlands of the Santa Clara River watershed and why a private land trust is an important partner to public agencies with a similar focus such as the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the city of Santa Clarita Open Space District.

SCV Green is a new local non-profit land trust and wildland conservation organization, formed to advocate for and acquire undeveloped land in the Santa Clara River watershed, and to promote watershed sustainability and wildlife habitat corridor preservation.
