After thoroughly checking the area, the deputies were unable to locate the bear. Residents who had spotted the bear indicated it was headed back into the hills.
Around 10:30 Friday night, the Sheriff's Station received more bear sighting calls from residents near Kathleen Avenue and Copper Hill Drive in Saugus.
Deputies quickly responded and located the bear in the backyard of a residence.
Aided by field reps from the Department of Fish & Game, the deputies were able to chase the bear out of the backyard. They contained and tracked the bear near the neighborhoods for more than two hours, before eventually chasing and coaxing it back into the mountains.
Deputies anticipate additional sightings and urge residents to be watchful.
