"Alice in Wonderland" will be performed by the Santa Clarita Ballet Company.

The Santa Clarita Ballet Company and Academy will present two programs during the weekend of June 21 - 22 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Both programs are equally entertaining and appropriate for audience members of all ages.

"Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass" will be offered as a matinee on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

For the evenings of June 21 and June 22, the company will present "Kingdom of the Shades," as well as a new theater dance piece, and the return of an audience favorite, "As the Piano Rolls."

"Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass" will be performed by the Santa Clarita Ballet Academy as well as several company dancers. This is an entirely new production for the Santa Clarita Ballet, comprised of original choreography inspired by the books written by Lewis Caroll.

For the evening programs on Saturday and Sunday nights, the company will perform "The Kingdom of the Shades", excerpted from the four-act ballet La Bayadere (The Temple Dancer). In one of the most celebrated scenes in classical ballet, 24 "Shades", or ghosts, clad in white tutus with veiled arms enter one by one, continuing down a long, winding ramp until the entire corps de ballet has filled the stage.

Premiering a new dance-theater piece co-choreographed by Santa Clarita Ballet's Artistic Director Carol Guidry, the exploration of popular culture is seen through a gauzy tutu. This new dance work is set to music by some of the world's foremost modern composers and beautifully showcases the level of talent the Company dancers possess.

"As the Piano Rolls" returns to the stage for the third time. Set in a dance hall in the 1920s, four lonely hearts - the two sisters, the show-off and the wallflower - come to listen to the player piano, have a dance or maybe even meet that special someone. Set to the music of George Gershwin, this is a toe-tapping favorite.
