Cast members of Saugus High School's production of "The Fantasticks" pose before a rehearsal. The play opens Jan. 21.

Saugus High School's production of the musical, "The Fantasticks," opens this week and stars Broadway veteran and Saugus senior Sara Niemietz as Luisa. Niemietz is a 17-year-old senior and professional actress/singer who starred in Carol Burnett's play "Hollywood Arms" and in Jason Robert Brown's recent musical "13" at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.

The shows plays for two weekends, Jan. 21 to 23 and 29 to 30. The play, which includes a live band, runs at 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.

"The Fantasticks" tells the story of a young boy and girl who fall madly in love at the hands of their meddling fathers, but soon grow restless and leave each other to go off and explore the world.

The show stars other Saugus singer/actors, including Daniel Stewart as Matt, Jacob Thomson as El Gallo, Cameron Rose as Huckabee and Matt Thorpe as Bellomy. Lexi Laundy and Joe Veliz play Henrietta and Mortimer.

"The Fantasticks" originally opened at New York's Sullivan Street Playhouse in 1960 and is still playing today.
