Why all the special deals?

The health care plan started off with the best of intentions. Coverage for all that would not omit those with pre-existing conditions, would be portable so you could move from job to job and would make it easier for the self-employed to have affordable insurance.

Because of the size of the population paying into the pool one would expect a reduced cost, so what’s not to like?

Sadly it has morphed into a plan that will still leave millions uninsured and has back-room deals for residents of Nebraska and Louisiana, allows certain religious groups like the Amish and others to opt out for religious reasons and cuts deals with the union to not tax their existing “Cadillac” plans until 2018.

I thought this was a plan for all of America? Why isn’t everyone covered as was first advertised, and why all the special deals?

All of these special deals mean those left end up paying a larger share, and those with the deals will still be using the same medical resources they don’t want to pay for.

If this is a good plan then we would not need all these special deals to entice people to support this thing. I understand the attraction of getting a plan in place, but it should be a plan enthusiastically embraced by we the people.

If we need to cut all these special deals then maybe we need to start over. I would rather have a good plan in time, over a bad one now.

It was interesting to listen to Democratic criticism of former President George W. Bush over the last eight years, with constant complaints of back-room deals.

Why the silence now? Or is it OK if it’s your guy cutting the deals? Since the Democrats control all three branches of the government, it is up to their constituents to challenge them on these back-room deals. Failure to do so will confirm hypocrisy is alive and well in the Democratic party, too.
