Newhall Land dedicated the 17-acre West Creek Park and handed it over to Los Angeles County on Jan. 15.

The park will be used as a recreational resource for Santa Clarita Valley communities by offering a convenient and safe venue for family activities, sports, picnics and other uses.

Some of the park's features include:
-- multi-use turf area
-- basketball court
-- "par course" track with exercise stations
-- two children's playgrounds
-- amphitheatre seating area
-- two picnic shelters with tables and barbeques
-- restrooms and parking
-- security lighting
-- landscaping and signage
-- office space for park staff

The Department of Parks and Recreation will operate and maintain the park seven days a week with two staff positions, one full time.

Engineers for the park were Hunsaker and Psomas with Dave George & Associates as design architect, Park West Landscape as contractor, John Burgeson as prime subcontractor and Gussman & Moore as electrical contractor.

A dedication scroll was presented to Greg McWilliams (Newhall Land) and Russ Guiney.
