Bush’s ratings reflect our culture

President Bush's dismal approval rating is not so much a commentary on his job performance as it is an accurate commentary on our self-absorbed, spoiled society.

I fail to find in the U.S. Constitution the clause that declares it the president's responsibility to guarantee artificially low fuel prices into perpetuity, ever increasing equity in our overpriced homes, and foolproof security against suicidal attack from every crazy self-destructive terrorist on the planet.

We are spoiled, over-indulged citizens of the most free and wealthiest society in the history of the world, and we consider ourselves entitled to these benefits, absent, of course any inconveniences such as long lines and extra security checks at airports, or any similar infringement on our cherished, assumed and unlimited individual liberties (including racing to and fro in our gas guzzling behemoths from one amusement to another). It's the President's job to deliver the goods - cater to our most selfish desires - or else!

By the way, John McCain, go ahead and "distance" yourself from our beleaguered president. It will be a cold day in Sheol before you get this conservative Republican's vote.
