Los Angeles County Coroner's officials incorrectly told The Signal on Thursday that the woman, who was shot Wednesday night, had been pronounced dead.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced brain-dead at a local hospital about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Sheriff's Homicide Lt. Dave Coleman said Friday.
On Friday morning, prosecutors charged the woman's husband, Gordon Starr, 64, with murder with a special allegation of personal and intentional discharge of a firearm.
The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday at the woman's home in the 29100 block of Flowerpark Drive in Canyon Country.
Sheriff's deputies found the victim shot in the head and minutes later arrested Starr.
Sheriff's officials also recovered a handgun from the scene, Coleman said.
A San Fernando Superior Court judge set Starr's bail at $2 million and ordered him to return to court for an arraignment Feb. 8, a district attorney's spokeswoman said.
