The fifth annual Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival will be held tonight, Saturday and Sunday at the Repertory East Playhouse in Old Town Newhall. This year the festival continues to focus on films appropriate for all ages, but will be showing feature-length films in addition to short films. The feature-length film competition is highly competitive, but accepted films will have the opportunity to be considered for distribution.

"We are very excited about the fifth annual SCV Film Festival, as it will be our best yet," said Ramon Hamilton, the executive director of the festival. "This year families can expect to see quality, independent films from all over the world. Films are from a variety of genres and will certainly satisfy all movie-goers. In addition to the professional independent films that will be showcased, we are proud to, once again, highlight the work of local youth here in the Santa Clarita Valley as we feature the best of the best among the elementary, junior high and high school films."

The REP's artistic director, Ovington Michael Owston, said, "This is our fifth year hosting the film festival. They are truly an amazing organization that is dedicated to quality independent filmmaking as well as educating the youth of the Santa Clarita Valley in the art of filmmaking. It is always a pleasure to host them and we look forward to this event each year."

Hamilton added that the SCV Film Festival has grown since its inception five years ago and has now become a premier events in the SCV. "In particular, we are proud to offer families an affordable and enjoyable experience in which they will see great films and might even see the work of a future Steven Spielberg or James Cameron. This year, we also have some blocks that offer great date nights for couples, such as ‘My Name is Jerry' and ‘True Beauty this Night' on Saturday night," he said.
