Film festival returns to SCV this weekend

"My Name is Jerry" is one of the many independent films that the Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival will feature this weekend.

 

The fifth annual Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival will entertain families at the Repertory East Playhouse in Old Town Newhall, starting on Friday, Jan. 8, and running through Sunday, Jan. 10.

The festival features both shorts and feature-length films; all are independent works from local youths and international artists. They are divided into multiple categories including musicals, animations, romantic comedies, and submissions from junior high and high school students.

Friday's films will screen from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring musicals and animations.

Saturday's films will screen from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature Script 2 Screen entries, junior high school films, and romantic comedies.

Sunday's films will screen from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring shorts and high school films.

The festival concludes with an awards ceremony on Sunday, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Films are appropriate for all ages.

The Repertory East Playhouse is located at 24266 Main St., Newhall 91321.
