The U.S. Census Bureau will open its Santa Clarita Valley office on Wednesday at an event that will include words from several local leaders and a tent set aside for job seekers.

The Census Bureau will hire up to 1,500 people for temporary positions, officials said. At Wednesday's event, people will learn how to apply and test for some of the positions.

Officials will give tours of the offices, which will service much of northern Los Angeles County, including the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys, along with part of the San Fernando Valley.
