Tiger by the tail

There is no doubt that Tiger Woods is an outstanding athlete and the best golfer in the world, but to put him on a pedestal and to regard him as a “poster boy” and as the “Athlete Of The Decade” at this time is not good reasoning.

The timing is very bad, and to show Tiger as an exemplary model of morality and virtue seems out of place. He is neither one of those ethical standards conforming to what is right and good.

I’ve always admired Tiger for his athletic ability, but to hold him in such esteem at this time is not fair to the other fine athletes who follow the rules and are outstanding in their sport.

There is a wrong message being sent to the young and aspiring athletes that it is acceptable to have unscrupulous morals and ethics as long as you play the game well.

That isn’t how the game is played. You play by the rules morally and ethically!

If steroids, drugs, gambling etc. were involved with an athlete, that athlete would not receive the accolades that have been bestowed upon Tiger as “Athlete of the Decade” regardless of his or her athletic accomplishments.

Golf will have to score a “bogey” for now until Tiger straightens out his drive and lands in the middle of the fairway.
