Where's the June gloom? It seems to me that the weather for the SCV Boys & Girls Club Auction is historically "warm!"

A Night on the Diamond for Boys & Girls Club
The 37th annual benefit auction will be held beginning 5 p.m. Saturday at Mann BioMedical Park, 25104 Rye Canyon Loop in Valencia to raise funds for the SCV Boys & Girls Club. The club, which operates clubhouses in Newhall and Canyon Country and a satellite facility in Val Verde, serves nearly 3,500 youth in the SCV. The club provides education, guidance, recreation and outreach services to many children in the SCV who might otherwise be latchkey kids. Supporting the club, supports a safe SCV. So bid early, and often, as the Club hosts its biggest and most crucial fundraiser of the year! Tickets are still available. General admission tickets are $25 for two, but dinner is not included. Reserved gourmet buffet dinner tickets are $85 each. Contact (661) 254-3063.

VIP Night for SCV Boys & Girls Club Auction
Don and Cheri Fleming hosted a festive "Night on the Diamond" VIP party to let potential auction high rollers a first hand glimpse of a few of the 70 or so live auction items to be featured at Saturday's auction. One of the most exciting new features of this year's auction is the "Grand Slam Raffle," where for only $100 a ticket you can purchase a chance to win any live auction item you choose (except for the Head Table at the 2009 auction). A maximum of 600 tickets will be sold and you need not be present to win (just tell 'em in advance what live auction prize is yours!). For raffle tickets call (661) 254-3063.

What auction item would you choose?
Hmmm. In my fantasy world, the one where I could actually win a raffle drawing (I've actually been in a drawing where there were only two tickets... and I didn't win! I do better at Bingo), which live auction item would I claim? There are so many wonderful choices it's hard to pick just one!

I'm tempted by the Mickey Mantle autographed baseball, the two bedroom, two bath Kona Hawaii condo, two center stage tickets for Celine Dion at the Staples Center (chauffeured transportation included), two bedroom, two bath Lake Tahoe condo for a week, NASCAR Adventure Six Pack (yes, drive a REAL racecar!), 9.28 carat diamond necklace, a Princess Cruises seven day Mexican Riviera or Caribbean Cruise, two courtside Lakers tickets, luxurious four bedroom, four bath Kona Hawaii home, Steve Garvey autographed jersey with 1990 All-Star game patch or a 1907 antique brass National cash register.

However, on further reflection I think I'd lay claim to the Ocean Club Paradise Island, Bahamas and first class airfare on American Airlines.

Seen at VIP Night
Among those spotted munching on the delectable goodies (even pigs in a blanket!) prepared by Salt Creek Grille (courtesy auction co-chairs Chell and Greg Amsler) were: Don and Cheri Fleming, Chell and Greg Amsler, Alan Cameron, Ivan Price, Karen and John Mahaffey, Dianne and Wayne Crawford, Marian and Richard Sandnes, Patricia McKeon, Harold and Jacquie Petersen, Laurie and Chris Ender, TimBen and Ingrid Boydston, John Dow, Andy Gallardo, Marlee and Katharine Lauffer, Judy Penman and her mother Dorothy Tucker, Carl and Terri Kanowsky, Diane and Allan Trautman, Chuck and Barb Morris, Diana and Steven Thomas and Michael Niles.
