Something is fishy

The most pressing concern for Californians is unemployment. At last glance, approximately 40,000 of those on the unemployment payroll were from the Sacramento Valley farm belt that boasts some of the richest soil around.

The problem? You can't grow food without water. Not only are we faced with double-digit unemployment, but we are now forced to import food from other sources due to Nancy Pelosi's refusal to back efforts that would provide irrigation that is badly needed for this area.

This has continued for more than 18 months in the wake of the worst economic environment in decades.

Why? A decision to choose the livelihood of people over that of a small Sacramento smelt fish. Such is the lack of balance and common sense currently prevailing in Congress and the Senate.

I stride the fence as an independent, but in this case it is clear to me there are some elected officials who have no clue as to their responsibilities to their constituents and it is time to give them a wake-up call.

California needs a lifeline from our representatives, not an anchor.
