Captains organizing teams of fundraising walkers for the American Cancer Society's 2010 SCV Relay for Life and local residents who are interested in joining a team are invited to attend a monthly Team Captains' Meeting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Grace Baptist Church in Saugus.

Relay participants will gather in one of the modular buildings on the conference center campus to share hints on organizing a successful team and sparking walkers' fund-raising efforts.

The Relay Store Committee will have a display of Relay-related items for purchase, and captains can purchase luminaria bags for themselves and their walkers, which can be personalized with the name of a cancer victim, survivor or caregiver.

The bags are placed around the Relay track during the actual event and lighted with candles for the evening Luminaria Ceremony, one of the most touching parts of the 24-hour walking event.

The 2010 Relay is scheduled for May 22-23 at Central Park in Saugus. Team captains can register their teams online at scvrelay.org, and team members can raise funds by directing donors to their own team at the site.
