How not to choose judges: Steve Lunetta’s method

Steve Lunetta wrote an Op-Ed article on June 2, 2008 on "How to Choose the Local Judges." In that article he states, "Please take the time to read and think about the judges you vote for."

Unfortunately, Mr. Lunetta didn't do this even for his article.

I was a candidate for Office #94 in last week's election for Los Angeles Superior Court. With respect to Office 94 Mr. Lunetta wrote: "Office No. 94: Eduard Abele. A tough choice here. Abele and O'Gara are both prosecutors, but Mack got a higher rating from the Bar. Antonovich endorses Abele. I'll go with him."

If Mr. Lunetta had followed his own advice and "read about the judges ..." he would know that both Mack and Abele were both equally rated ("qualified") by the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

He also would have been aware that I was rated HIGHER than both Mack and Abele by that same organization ("Well Qualified"). He also would have been aware of all my other endorsements including Supervisors Antonovich and Knabe, the Los Angeles Lincoln Clubs, and Bob Philibosian.

One would also expect that Mr. Lunetta might also have actually followed the link he provided as a source of information for the election - If one were to follow that link they would be connected to the Canadian Bar Association. Nice, but not particularly relevant to an election for judges in Los Angeles County.

When there is so little information published on judicial candidates, it's unfortunate that what is published is based on inaccurate or incomplete information.
