A Canyon Country man is due in court today after he allegedly pulled a knife on his girlfriend's son and smashed a car windshield at a Christmas Eve gathering, officials said.

Deputies arrested the 38-year-old suspect on Thursday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra.

About 10:25 p.m., the suspect allegedly became violent in an argument with his girlfriend's 23-year-old son in the 19800 block of Sierra Estates Drive, Cambra said.

The 23-year-old told deputies the suspect had been drinking throughout the night, Cambra said.

The suspect allegedly grabbed a steak knife and held it against the younger man's throat, Cambra said.

The younger man told deputies he fought back before the suspect followed him to his car, jumped on the car's hood and smashed the windshield by stomping on it, Cambra said.

The suspect then reportedly went back into the house and returned to the middle of the street with a baseball bat before deputies arrived at the scene, Cambra said.

The Canyon Country man is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station in lieu of $30,000 bail, sheriff's officials said.
