Canyon Springs Community School hosted a Family Reading Night on Dec. 3 to bring together kids and families to read together.
Retired Dodgers pitcher Al Downing joined families to celebrate reading and the night also brought Canyon Springs teachers and administrators who read aloud to families. Parents were also encouraged to read books in English or Spanish with their children.
The event was the second time the school has hosted a reading night. The program is designed to give parents an opportunity to read with their children at home.
Families who come to the school's reading nights are taught reading comprehension strategies that they can then use at home to encourage reading with their kids.
