Help me understand

Help me in this discussion:

Today (Dec. 16) CNN announced 335 people were killed by enemy fire this year alone. They didn’t mention “friendly” fire.

However, 345 people have killed themselves this year also. The number of those committing suicide is supposed to be proportionately higher than previous wars and is increasing; it is announced as an “astounding statistic.”

Then the Obama administration is suppose to be under review as to whether or not the policy to not write letters to families whose fathers, sons and daughters kill themselves because the military spokesman says to do so will diminish the honor of fighting and “to not make suicide a hero exit.”

What about the families’ sacrifices? Don’t they deserve acknowledgment for their losses?

So we discriminate against those who develop mental illness? Doesn’t war often turn the soldier into a mental case?

The arrogance and cruelty of folks who have never gone to war always astounds me.

Just think — after you have put your life on the line, you have to play hide-and-seek to get the pensions, medical coverage, insurance and medical support from the country that you dutifully served.

I walked through the steps my uncle and a close friend went through with the Veteran Administration hospitals to get the assistance that they needed. Both went through constant three-month processes, then waiting over a year for their coverage to be determined.

Makes no sense to me. Help me understand this, America. I believe the medical profession should combine forces and research why suicides are happening and put the appropriate precautions in place.
