College of the Canyons Resident Nurse Student Mindie Hernandez gets the proper tools to place an IV on a patient in the emergency room at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital on Dec. 15. As the state nursing shortage increases, COC has seen more students apply for the program. The college formed a partnership with Newhall Memorial in 2001.
