Lorraine King, the superintendent's administrative assistant, introduces the hand chime choir, which performed for Bowman High School students last week.

Staff members from the William S. Hart Union High School District’s administrative center turned into musicians for the holidays, thanks to the efforts of Lorraine King, the superintendent’s administrative assistant.

King directs a hand chime choir for her church and every year takes on the task of teaching the art to volunteers from the district staff.

This year, 12 employees took up the challenge, spending one lunch period a week since September learning their parts and the skill of reading music — one note at a time. The chimers mastered a medley of Christmas carols, which they presented at the Hart district’s annual holiday luncheon for administrative center employees.

The choir then took its repertoire across the street to Bowman High School for a holiday concert which has become an annual tradition for the district’s continuation school.

The volunteers presented one final concert for family, friends and co-workers in the district board room Friday, before retiring their chimes for another year.
