Stimulus was a bad idea

The American Reinvestment and Recovery act is a failure.

Oh, I am sure you’ve seen the numerous signs along the roadways undergoing a facelift in Santa Clarita; The signs announcing the project being undertaken is paid for using federal stimulus funds are intended to convince you deficit spending, despite all of the evidence to the contrary, has been stimulative to the economy.

Whereas I enjoy flat, smooth and well-marked roadways as much as the next driver/cyclist, I am unconvinced these projects stimulated very much.

To further drive home the point, a report by The Mercatus Center at George Mason University in Virginia “shows that the funds were distributed without regard for what states were most in need of jobs.”

It gets better.

“Additionally, Mercatus found that stimulus funds were not disbursed geographically with any special regard for low-income Americans,” the report states.

And to top it all off, the report found “Democratic congressional districts received on average almost double the funding of Republican congressional districts.”

Search for the report at for even more depressing news about what historians will very likely refer to as “spendulus.”

If there is any remaining doubt in your mind that the decision to mortgage future generations of Americans in the name of short-term stimulus for the economy was a bad idea, this report and others soon to come should put that doubt to rest.
