Coroner's officials are investigating an apparent suicide after a male was found hanging from a tree at the William S. Hart Park campgrounds in Newhall Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The victim appears to be a Hispanic man in his 20s, said Los Angeles County coroner's Capt. John Kades.

The death incident was determined a noncriminal death, said Detective Steve Lankford of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau.

"It appears to be, other than his death, no foul play," Lankford said.

Detectives learned of the hanging just before 1 p.m. after a woman walking through the secluded area spotted the body about 100 feet up a hillside and contacted park officials, Lankford said.

The park officials then contacted homicide detectives, he added.

No further information was available late Friday afternoon, officials said.
