Sulphur Springs School District has chosen The Signal's education reporter, Tammy Marashlian, to be one of 10 recipients for the Golden Apple award.

"Tammy has always been such a support for all of our schools," Josh Randall, principal of Sulphur Springs Elementary School, said Wednesday. "She always gets both sides of the story and really highlights the positive side of things happening in our schools."

The Golden Apple comes from the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the Association of California School Administrators, said Randall, president-elect.

Each district annually chooses two award recipients who have contributed in a positive way to local schools, Randall said.

"My goal has been to cover all aspects of education, whether it's the devastating effects of state budget cuts or a school district's efforts to reach out to English-language learners," Marashlian said.

Sulphur Springs School District also nominated Larry Schallert, director of adult education and outreach services for the Child and Family Center.

The association will honor award recipients at a February banquet.
