John Boston, known by many as Mr. SCV, has been chosen as the grand marshal of this year's Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade.

"Who better to represent the Santa Clarita Valley than Mr. SCV on the Fourth of July?" committee chairman Leon Worden said Wednesday. "He oozes Santa Clarita and Newhall."

Boston, a longtime Signal columnist who resigned earlier this year, is also a Santa Clarita historian.

"It just is a tremendous honor," Boston said. "It's just beyond my wildest imagination that I was chosen."

This is the first year Boston will participate as the grand marshal, but has participated in the parade since he was a child, many times on horseback.

The parade, which first rolled down Santa Clarita streets in 1932, has featured grand marshals ranging from western movie stars to politicians like last year's grand marshal U.S. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m. and will travel through Newhall via Main Street (formerly San Fernando Road), Lyons Avenue and will finish on Orchard Village Road.
