Dan Goetz, President of Ultra Violet Devices Inc. in Valencia watches two of his G-scale, narrow gauge electric engines travel over a section of the 600 feet of track that make up Dan and Debbie Goetz's Deadwood and Dry Gulch backyard Railroad. The 1:20 scale LGB Forney engine, on the track at right, costs $600 and the Mogul engine below left, is $400. The train's rail cars can cost from $25 to $100 each. Dan Goetz got wife Debbie interested in model railroading when they married 31 years ago, and they expanded their hobby to the 120 by 25 foot back yard layout when they moved to their Castaic home in 1992. The couple are members of the SCV Garden Railroad Club.
