Bruce Bourquin, a San Diego State University graduate with seven years of sports writing experience, joined The Signal this week as sports editor.

Bourquin, 30, comes to The Signal from the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbe Daily Review in Arizona, where he covered prep, community and college sports, as well as competition at nearby Fort Huachuca Army base.

"We're delighted at Bruce's commitment to both high school and community sports coverage and look forward to the innovations he will bring to the job," said Signal Editor Lila Littlejohn.

Bourquin, who grew up in Redlands, graduated from Esperanza High School in Anaheim and received a bachelor's of science in journalism at San Diego State.

He was a sports writer at the Porterville Recorder and covered football at the Visalia Times-Delta before moving to Arizona in 2003.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of being sports editor in such a vibrant community as the Santa Clarita Valley with its diverse background and expectations," Bourquin said.
