The William S. Hart Union High School District expects to have a $13.5 million deficit for the 2011-12 fiscal year because of ongoing state cuts to education funding.

As a result of the projections, the Hart district filed a "qualified" report indicating that it cannot currently meet its operating expenses for the three-year period.

The district is looking at establishing a nonprofit foundation, proposing a property tax and reducing programs to meet the deficit.

The Hart district, along with all other SCV school districts, may face further funding cutbacks when the governor presents his State of the State address in January, which may outline mid-year cuts.
