Last weekend the Canyon High School Thespian Society/Drama Class put on a production called "Flowers for Algernon" by David Rogers, based on the novel by David Keys.

This is a beautiful story about a mentally handicapped young man named Charlie Gordon, played by Dante Belardinelli, who is given an operation to increase his IQ.

The consequences were unpredictable and at times quite disturbing.

Director/teacher Kristen Pechacek put together a cast and ensemble that took this drama to a new level.

The audience was taken down a path of joy, sadness, anger and enlightenment as each of the characters unfolded the everyday life issues of being "normal."

The adult issues and maturity level of this story were handled professionally by this very talented group.

The emotional energy in the air was felt by everyone in the room.

Canyon High continues to put out quality productions.

Its next production, "Guys & Dolls," is scheduled toward the end of the school year.

Be sure not to miss it - tickets are available on a first-come basis.
