A teacher at West Ranch High School is on administrative leave while school officials investigate allegations that the teacher had inappropriate contact with a student.

The Hart high school district's human resources director, Rochelle Neal, said she could not confirm the teacher's identity Monday, citing the need to protect the privacy and identities of both parties.

"We have notified the (Los Angeles County) Sheriff's Department, but basically our office is doing the investigation," Neal said.

"We can't release the name of the staff member to protect the staff member's privacy and the privacy of the student."

The allegations come after a counselor at Golden Valley High School resigned and a teacher at another William S. Hart Union High School District high school was placed on leave facing similar investigations this spring.

On May 12, Hart district spokeswoman Pat Willett said the district was "currently investigating allegations of inappropriate contact between an employee and a student.

"The staff member has been placed on administrative leave pending results of the investigation," Willett said of the third case.

She would neither confirm nor deny reports that the person in question worked at Canyon High School.
