Republican candidate already lying

Watch out, the Republican candidate for California governor is already peddling falsehoods.

Blatant baloney from billionaire political novice Meg Whitman tells radio listeners “that in the last 10 years, state spending has gone up 80 percent?”

She is completely wrong when they say that, replied state Finance Director Mike Genest, a conservative former budget consultant for Senate Republicans.

In fact, general fund spending “in the last 10 years” has risen just 27 percent, according to finance department data. Adjusted for inflation and population growth, spending actually has decreased by 16.6 percent.

Well, it seems Whitman didn’t actually count the last 10 years. And since then the budget has been slashed to $84.6 billion for the current fiscal year. Just more fun from the party of no-ideas.

This happened once before, recently. The Republicans trumped up “charges” against the elected Governor Gray Davis and rode a popular actor into office. This actor rode the state into near destitution, but looked good doing it.

Will we be fooled again? Are we smarter now? Elect someone who is looking ahead, not back.
