Applications to open for City Council

Paperwork for potential candidates due Jan. 15

The list of contenders vying for three seats in April's City Council election will be decided in the next few weeks.

Those interested in running for City Council have from Dec. 21 until Jan. 15 to file nomination paperwork with the city. Candidates can pay $1,420 to have a brief description of their qualifications included on the sample ballot.

Anyone interested in running is encouraged to make an appointment with the city clerk to file paperwork properly.

Elections be will held April 13.

David Gauny and former council member TimBen Boydston have already announced they are running against the three incumbents seeking re-election.

Gauny heads Smart Growth SCV, a community group that opposed Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital expansion plans.

Mayor Frank Ferry and council members Laurene Weste and Marsha McLean are all running for re-election.
