Fliers on utility poles are a blight

In having read the article “City fights flier blitz” (Nov. 18) I am hoping the city will also consider addressing the ever-increasing problem of private citizens using public utility poles and other areas to advertise such things as garage sales, rooms for rent and lost pets.

I’m sure everyone living in our fair city of Santa Clarita has seen these tacky and trashy homemade signs that are being put up by individuals who are apparently too cheap or lazy to advertise in the local paper or other circulations.

Not only is this practice an eyesore, but from my understanding, is illegal as well.

In a call I made to the City Community Preservation Department, I was informed that while it is against the law, neither they nor any other agency enforce this violation of city code.

So until the city of Santa Clarita takes a stand against those who choose to openly and freely trash our neighborhood, we will have to accept the fact our once-beautiful city will eventually fall into the same decay that plagues the neighboring San Fernando Valley.
