Let’s keep Towsley Canyon beautiful

An open letter to all local high school track coaches:

I am one of many folks who enjoyed the trails at Towsley Canyon. In recent years it has become quite the local attraction for hikers and joggers. This includes several local high school cross-country teams.

It has been recently observed that in an effort to run the trails in a designated time frame, runners have run off-trail to cut their individual times.

This “rogue trail cutting” diminishes the overall beauty of Towsley Canyon, not to mention the erosion this type of behavior causes.

Maintenance for the trails is all volunteer-done and therefore it comes at a cost for those of us who do volunteer to see this type of neglect.

Coaches, please advise your students. Students, please do your best, but do it by not cheating.

Thank you.
