Longtime SCV resident Laurie Morgan puts on a producer's cap for the first time with the Group Rep's production of the Los Angeles premiere of a new musical version of "A Christmas Carol" at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood.

This production is based on Charles Dickens' classic Christmas story, and written by Richard Hellesen, with music and lyrics by David De Berry. It is directed by Ernest A. Figueroa, the newly appointed artistic director of the Group Rep.

The production is pure Dickens, and a magical, mystical musical. All of the elements of the original classic tale are here - illuminated by mask, music and puppetry similar in style to Julie Taymor's work in a Lion King.

Morgan has been a performer in theater, TV, film, commercials and voiceover. In addition, she has entertained in night clubs and cabarets. Her television credits include: "Mystery ER," "Guilty or Innocent," "Diary of an Affair," and "Twins by Surprise." Los Angeles theater credits include: the Chanteuse in "Pushcart Peddlers/74 Georgia Avenue," the Moderator in "Discussion After the Play Reading," Trudy in "The Comic Potential," and A.P. in "Splendora." Other favorite theater roles include Mother Superior in "Nunsense," Mrs. Seismagraff in "Betty's Summer Vacation," Mother Abbess in "The Sound of Music," and the Nurse in "Romeo and Juliet."

Morgan also paints and is the president of the Santa Clarita Artists' Association. She currently has a One Woman Show Art Exhibit on display through Dec. 19 the Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main St., Newhall, CA 91321. The Artist's Reception will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

By day, Morgan is a commercial talent agent at the Jerrry Pace Agency. She is excited to be wearing a new hat as producer for this GRT production of "A Christmas Carol."

"A Christmas Carol" plays Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. through Dec. 20.
A Special Holiday Family Package of four tickets for $50 is being offered for this production.
